Into darkness.

Lately, I always stay at university into the late PMs/ early AMs, I just have so much to do. Because of that, I came to realize how much I enjoy wandering around at night when it’s already pitch black outside. I also started a night photography/ videography project.

I shoot most of the video on my iPhone. I know it isn’t easy, and the footage from my camera looks way better, but I’m a person who dares to get the footage that I want. I also thought it would be fun to test the boundaries of my phone.

And I have to say, some of the pictures turned out really nice. I haven’t yet had a look at most of the video footage, though. I just didn’t have the time. And University currently has a higher priority for me, as does my Formula Student team.

My procedure for the photography part is as follows: I set my camera to shutter priority, ‘Tv’ on a Canon, ‘S’ on anything else and a shutter value of 1/20 to 1/10 of a second. An image stabilized lens helps a lot. I also set my ISO to auto, which means it won’t go any higher than 1600, but it probably also doesn’t go any lower. The underexposure warning still comes on on my camera. But I don’t care, as long as the images look like I want them to. And most of the time they do. I also love the mood of that picture.

And a bonus is, that at night, there aren’t many people around where I’m from, so you’re all by yourself without any distractions. I like it when I don’t have to answer stupid questions and don’t get any stupid looks.

I also like long exposures by the way. And may have a weak spot when it comes to colour consistency.

Also, here’s my latest YouTube video, it’s already a week old:
