Last Thursday, I finally had the chance to try out the EcoBus, a new form of public transportation running in its beta phase since August 2018. It doesn’t have bus stops in the traditional sense, and you book your bus via app or website.
I always wanted to try out if this concept really worked, but I never had the time to do it. So when I had a whole day to spend last Thursday, I knew what i wanted to do. And it’s actually quite easy to use! You just pick out where you want to be picked up and where you want to go, and a bus is on its way. Sometimes though, it might take quite a while until a bus is free to pick you up. The best thing is that you won’t pay more then you would using the regular bus.
My journey started in Clausthal and took me to Torfhaus. I had been planning to go there since quite a while as well, so it was an easy choice to select it as my destination.
Once in Torfhaus, I got me a pair of new winter gloves at the local Globetrotter store, making sure I could use my camera with them. Then I visited the National Park Visitor Centre to grab some postcards just before they closed at 4pm.
I also took a few pictures of nearby Mount Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz.
When it was time to go, I came across the problem that you sometimes have to wait for your EcoBus to pick you up. That’s especially true when you’re waiting for it at a less popular location.
I had to wait almost two full hours for my bus. So because of that, and because it was too dark outside for any serious photography without a tripod, I decided to have dinner in Torfhaus instead of at home.
