I never really found Sky Replacements that Interesting. It is not that I have a Problem with it, I just did not think it was something I would ever even consider doing myself.
But now that I have upgraded to Photoshop 2021, and it comes with a very easy to use Sky Replacement Feature, I figured that I would give it a try.
Before After
And I have to say, the Feature works really good for my Application. It did not even Struggle with those fine Twigs on the left of the Frame. I am actually quite happy with the Results I got.
But right now, the Sky Availability is quite limited. I think there are 10 or 12 Skies in the Library. I was lucky to find one that kinda matched the actual Sky I encountered at the Okertalsperre yesterday.
I do believe that you can add your own Skies into Photoshop to use though. Maybe I need to create my own Library if I want to seriously use that Feature.
Before After
Today, the Skies here in Osterode where extremely dull and grey. But since I was clearing out a few Shelves in my Room anyhow, that was not a real Problem to me.
I did spot a Raven on a Tree though and just had to take a Foto of it. I did not have Sky Replacement in mind when I hit that Shutter Button, but the Situation was perfect to try it out. Most because of all the fine little Branches that Raven was sitting on.
And it went very well. In Fact, it almost went to well in my Opinion. As far as I can tell, there is not a single Error anywhere in the Foto.
Those Errors where one of the Things that kept me from trying out Sky Replacements earlier. They were always kinda obvious.

I still prefer it to get real good Skies right away, but with my Run & Gun Style of Photography, that is not always the Case. Sometimes, my Skies are really bleak.
I am not sure if I am ever going to use the Sky Replacement again though. It works well, it is easy to use, but I am really not sure if it is me. Maybe if I get my own Sky Library, but not now.

Also, I am not really sure how to feel about Sky Replacements in General. I usually have no Problem with them, because I never saw really good ones, and because it usually took a lot of Skill to get things Right.
Now, with things like Photoshop 2021 and Luminar, it is getting easier and easier to Replace almost anything in a Foto. And I really do not know what to make of that.
